You've stolen a pizza my heart

Rylan finally got her helmet.
It has a pretty pink strap and... she definitely hates it.
Seeing her be fitted was the saddest thing I have ever seen. Not because it was a long process or because it was painful, she just looked so defeated.

It ended up not looking as bad as I had anticipated in my mind but I still hate it.
These 5-8 remaining weeks are going to be difficult.
She has to wear it 23/24 hours of the day which means, yes, she has to sleep with it which basically means...
She sleeps in bed with me.
It's annoying but I have to put it into perspective and think how uncomfortable it would be to have a bicycle helmet on while you slept...
doesn't sound too ideal.
She is getting spoiled.
But as soon as that helmet comes off-- it's back to the crib with you!!

Rylan met Blitzen at the Fire & Ice Festival down in the Riverwoods.
He said he would put in a good word with Santa so, needless to say, they are pretty tight.

Rylan's Valentine's Day outfit & Photo Shoot:

*sigh*
oh the cuteness.

Roses are red...
Violets are blue...
I'm pretty cute, but I may poop on you.

Will you be my Valentine?

Valentine's Day was pretty special. Brian took Rylan out at about 2:30 so I could have some time to relax and get ready for our date.
He arranged babysitting and drove her there all by himself.
He picked me up at about 4:45 and we headed up to Log Haven which is an amazing scenic restaurant up Little Cottonwood Canyon? Milcreek Canyon? I can't remember there are way too many Canyons...

Anyway, we decided to go there because it was rated 1/10 most romantic restaurants in the U.S.
Naturally, we wanted to decipher if this way true..
it is.

Luckily they had valet parking because there wasn't a parking spot to be seen for miles.
When we arrived the host gave me a rose and escorted us to the waiting area.
The ambiance was absolutely incredible.
It was beautiful inside with a fireplace, rustic refinished wood, high ceilings and huge windows allowing you to overlook the beautiful scenery and lights.
We were sat by a window which was ideal.
Brian ordered duck and I ordered salmon and we finished with an order of almond, huckleberry panna cotta. Seriously, my favorite dessert of all time!

Afterwards, Brian and I watched a movie and exchanged presents.
Brian always outdoes me in every aspect of gift giving, and this time was no different.

It was a great Valentine's Day.

In other news, I can finally say I am starting to feel at home in Sandy.
I have met some great people the last few weeks.
A move is always made easier when there are friendly people to talk to and spend time with in your neighborhood.

As some of you may know, I deleted my facebook account. This blog and my instagram account (rara_nation) will be the best ways for you to keep up with us.

We hope you know how much we love and appreciate the relationships we have with each and every one of you.

Until next month, take care!

P.S Here is Rylan in a box... nope she's not eating Green Eggs & Ham. She may, however, be packing herself up for her baby adventure to NY in less than two weeks. GRANDMA'S WEEK! What a ham!

Ringing in 2015

I can't believe it's already 2015.
I graduated high school 7 years ago... ouch!

New Years Eve was a little different this year. Usually we go to a party but it's hard to find babysitters on New Years Eve. Brian woke up feeling sick New Year's Eve morning, too. We were kind of bummed that we wouldn't really have anything to do. So last minute, I went to the store and got all the ingredients for a "Royal King's Feast."
We had pork loin with a cranberry and rosemary sauce, funeral potatoes, kale ceasar salad, pineapple and mango spears, martinellis and ghiradelli brownies dipped in chocolate ganache.
Not bad for last minute, am I right?

We watched the firework displays put on by Sydney, Dubai and London. Watched the ball drop in Times Square. All that by 10 o'clock our time. Then we put in a movie Brian has been dying to see and played games until 11:45 when we began preparing for countdown.

I don't know if this is a Puerto Rican tradition or just some weird thing my parents did but, at midnight we throw a deep pot of water out the door to signify throwing the bad luck out. We also grab pots and pans and ladles and go around every inch of the house banging them loudly to "scare away" the bad luck.

Yeah, that seems real crazy when I write that down and read it...
Oh well, it is super fun and I loved doing it when I was a kid.

On January 6th, we celebrate 3 Kings Day which is another Puerto Rican tradition. But it's not weird. It represents the 3 Wise Men who travelled from afar to visit Christ and bring him gifts. We set out carrots and water for the camels. The 3 Kings usually leave a gift or two. This year Rylan got a little shakey toy.

Brian dragged brought me to Deer Valley to climb up a huge hill in the snow to watch the FIS Freestyle World Cup Ski Event 2015. It was actually pretty fun. We bundled Rylan up in two onesies, two fleece feetie pajamas, socks, mittens and hat. She was probably warmer than anyone else on the mountain.

Rylan is half a year old.

Stats:
She is 21 pounds (85th percentile),
29.9 inches long (93rd percentile).
Hair: Red
Eyes: Hazel (mostly green)
Wears: 6-9 month tops; 1 year bottoms.

She loves:
-sitting on her own
-crawling backwards
-doing push ups and sit ups
-eating apples
-biting her fingers (then getting mad because she is biting too hard)
-her "spaceship" lita and pop pops bought her
-reading
-laughing
-snuggles with mom in the big bed

We had a Superbowl party at our house this year with Brian's parents, little brother and older sister.
We had SO MUCH FOOD! Which is a good thing.
I made pizza and wings.
Brian's mom brought over celery, carrots, dips, chips, and made a delicious queso dip.
Sarah brought over vintage root beers and cream soda.
I loved the half time show! I thought it was great. I was surprised to see so many posts on FB about how people didn't like it.
But, to each their own!
I literally didn't care who won. I'm not partial to either team.
I guess if I had to choose, I'd go with the Patriots strictly because they are an East coast team and also people hate them, and I like being involved in a little controversy.
JK. I wanted them to win.. and they did. Boo YAH!

:D

We passed the time by making super cheesy Valentine's Day cards for Josh,
with poems such as

"Whenever I hum, I think of your bum."
and
"You're quite the young bloke, my ankles are broke."

Well it's 2:07PM and the princess has not yet awoken from her nap, so I should probably go get her up so I can ensure I get a good night sleep tonight.

Hope life is finding you all well..
except for you, Seahawk fans; I hope you are still crying.

;)
